ABOUT JULIE
With decades of experience in both fraud investigation and consumer protection journalism, Julie Matthews has dedicated her career to stopping scam artists and protecting people.
She spent 19 years as an investigative TV reporter—10 of which were spent as Global TV Edmonton’s “Troubleshooter.” Her passion for helping others led her to trade her microphone for a badge, becoming a peace officer and senior investigator with the Government of Alberta’s Consumer Investigations Unit.
During her decade in law enforcement, Julie remained many Albertans’ go-to source for fraud and scam advice. Receiving requests daily on social media from Albertans looking for help tugged at her heart strings.
Recognizing the growing need for fraud prevention education, especially in rural communities, she turned her focus to empowering others with the knowledge to stay safe.
Julie now travels across Western Canada delivering engaging and impactful presentations to seniors, students, businesses, and community groups about the latest scams.
Julie is a certified fraud examiner, a proud board member of the Alberta Community Crime Prevention Association and a key advocate during Fraud Prevention Month. Each week, she shares tips and advice through her “Scam Alert” segment on 840 CFCW radio.
